Welcome to NOAA National Hurricane Center, a part of the National Weather Service, located on the campus of Florida International University in Miami, Florida.

This unique building contains both the National Hurricane Center and the Miami South Florida forecast office of the National Weather Service.

It houses the nation's leading experts in the fields of tropical meteorology and hurricane forecasting, plus a full staff of hydrological and meteorological scientists. The combined center is also host to workshops, seminars and educational tours.

Completed in 1995, the facility is designed as a fortress to withstand up to 130 mph winds without damage, protecting its vital internal operations during hurricanes and other severe weather.

The mission of the National Hurricane Center is save lives, mitigate property loss and improve economic efficiency by issuing the best watches, warnings, forecasts and analyses of hazardous tropical weather, and by increasing understanding of these hazards.

It is the calm, clear and trusted voice in the eye of the storm, and with its partners, enables communities to be safe from tropical weather threats.
